| | | Live Earth shows? Just wondered what others had thought of this concept?
Unless the shows were l held in daylight, and the artists had all played acoustic sets, with everyone travelling to the venues on foot, bicycle or pony & trap, the idea seems to have defeated it's own object, considering the logistics of moving tens of thousands of folk and equipment around .
It seems hardly surprising it has had criticism from some quarters. |

To be fair this live earth or what ever it is, is having alot of critisism, but to me it is making people aware of the earths problems etc, half the critics arnt exactly perfect i bet they drive their big gas guzzlers to the local shop, drop litter etc etc, people are so quick to ask for support and this is what happens when they get it, they pick the whole thing apart, its promoting conservation what else do people want

I agree, no one is perfect regarding this issue in the modern world, when we flick a switch on the wall , we expect a light to come on. I think the criticism has focused on the fact that we are being encouraged by the great & good, to save energy & not make unnecessary journeys, the point behind these shows.Someone I know made a 700 mile round trip to London this Weekend gone.
If the artists had been paid to advertise low energy light bulbs or LPG cars, would this not have got the message across too, if they carry so much influence? |

Which it did. I'd love to see myself as a travelling minstrel or druid/bard though, riding from town to town on a one eyed horse named fatty lumpkin but "i can't dance and i can't sing and...." oh i'll shut up now and listen to some Jethro Tull -seeyou. |

| | | Re: Live Earth shows? Aren't there literally hundreds of concerts going on yearly, all over the earth? Then people complain that ONE of them is to raise awareness of destruction of planet earth and what it will do to the lives of most of its inhabitants - and people complain.. ITS THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE PEOPLE LISTEN.. use the information systems that they pay attention to! |

I recently heard someone being interviewed say something along the lines of "We are all obsessed by celebrities - we all buy "Heat" magazine..." and my immediate response was "Well I don't!" So I looked into it a bit further and discovered that for July to December 2006 (the latest period for which data was available at the time) Heat's circulation, measured by ABC (the Audit Bureau of Circulation) peaked at 598,623. That's a fraction under 1% of the UK population. Even allowing for the fact that many copies will be shared around I'm willing to bet that well over 90% of people in Britain never open a copy of Heat or any other "celebrity" mag.
