Ecocide-new 5th International crime?

Polly Higgins a UK lawyer has proposed a new 5th international law, alongside Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity - Ecocide, a crime against the environment!

There was a mock trail at the supreme court last Friday where two CEOs (played by actors) were tried and found guilty of ecocide. You can find out more on the Eradicating Ecocide website. You can also support this idea on the 38 Degrees website where there is a 'suggest a campaign' page running.

This could be what a lot of people wanting better protection for the Nature have been waiting for. Alone it may not be the answer but it is getting people talking and about time!

Another related petition. The Rights of Mother Earth campaign and the Global Alliance for the rights of nature aim to deliver a petition to the Earth Summit 2012 for the acceptance and implementation of the Universal Declaration of Rights of Mother Earth by ALL nations.
