Save Hatfield Forest

Help save Hatfield Forest from airport expansion.

Hatfield Forest is a unique place. Its 424ha (1,049 acres) of ancient grazed wood pasture and coppiced woodland have been managed in much the same way for 1,000 years.

Mentioned in the Domesday Book, it is the only place in the country where you can step into a landscape that has changed little since medieval times.

The Forest is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and as a National Nature Reserve.

The Forest is located adjacent to the Stansted Airport site, and is already affected by noise and pollution connected with the airport.

You can show your support online here: National Trust | Hatfield Forest | Save Hatfield Forest

Re: Save Hatfield Forest

You mis-understood me Kymba.

I was quoting the bit where you said "...There are too many planes polluting the air". I certainly am not in favour of extending, or building new, airports.

hmmm.... the same can be said about road traffic as well. Stop building new roads is also the answer.

Save Hatfield Forest

Am about to sign the petition myself. Have enjoyed a long walk in the forest with husband and dog this afternoon. Didn't mind the rain either.

As for the planes taking off every few minutes - has no-one heard of holidays in this country? Returned from North Devon two weeks ago and loved every minute of our time there. Walked every day and didn't use the car much. Perhaps more people should try it.

Re: Save Hatfield Forest

Have just signed the petition.

I knew the forest quite well when I lived in the area some thirty years ago, (am now expatriate in Cornwall), a fantastic place, it must be saved for future generations not sacrificed to a temporary ( I hope) addiction to air travel.

Re: Save Hatfield Forest

I have tried but couldn't, the page wouldn't load. Would the entire forest need to be flattened for the expansion, or just in part? Or is it more a case of the effect on the woodlands. I thought locations with Site of Special Scientific Interest accreditation were legally protected. I couldn't reach either the National Trust's page of it, Or the petition.

Re: Save Hatfield Forest

Signed, I can’t believe they would want to destroy such an ancient site, do people not have a sense of time. We are here for mere moments; this forest has been here for generations.
