Please help save these two Nature Reserves!!!

Thanks for looking at this message. Two of my local nature reserves are to be destroyed unless we can change things within 2 months. These sites are very important and they even have Otters on them that moved in not long ago! Otters in the East of the UK is pretty rare and after the years of hard work to get them here, the council is building a road to put an end to it, just like that! Please visit this page and sign my petition to save these two great reserves! Please pass this link to all your friends it would be a great help. Thank you so much for your help.

Cheers Roger! Too right! We don't even need the road they want to build, and even if they had to build it they could go for the best option that would leave the reserves untouched, and this is one of the three options so why they don't just opt for that one I don't know.

Signed it. You need to stay alert, don't you? We've got an area just down the road that was designated a nature reserve only last year, and there are now proposals to build some new floodlit tennis courts on it. I'm sure the wildlife would enjoy using those!

Just signed. I really hope this is stopped and a good idea is to inform the media.. I know how you feel. My local council are planning to build 600 houses in the area I used to live but they have met a big opposition and we have put them under great pressure. It isn't a nature reserve but could easily be as it has Barn Owls, Otters, peregrines and Harvest Mice.

Thanks for signing it guys, I really do appreciate it. I hope we can make a difference, we will need a heck of a lot of signatures to sway them and sadly we don't have much time as it was all hush hush until quite recently.

We have it on the local radio and local BBC site, a friend of mine has done a lot to protect it too and we have all done a lot of work there over the years. I have been the warden for the past 18 months on one of the reserves and it has been a delight to work there. In the area within the last ten years we have almost lost everything, one huge amount of land to two housing developments, maybe 5000 houses, the rest is a supermarket and the other half an industrial estate. The only chunk of land we have left was up for grabs recently and the Wildlife Trust were outbid and it was sold for almost a million pounds to developers, the land is also a very large flood plain!!!! So everything is now gone apart from the two reserves and now the threat to those is very large indeed. My aim is to get several thousand signatures so I have been spreading the word and the on-line petition was only started today so I hope we can get much interest on this. Its very time consuming and I have several environmental exams this month that I should be working hard on, combine this with my teaching and other work and I don't have time to take a breath! But I hope it will all be worth it in the end.

Hi Kris,

Have signed petition! I take it the council have done either an Ecological or Environmental Impact Assessment, which they are now obliged to do (PPS9 and recent government direction on public bodies to have a duty of obligation with regards to biodiversity, etc.). Otters being a Schedule 5 should throw a spanner in the works if only from the point of of mitigative proposals.
