| | | Please support SAVE THE BLUE LAGOON
This is a Facebook website that has been set up to support the funding to reverse the draining of a local beauty spot reservoir, with massive implications to local wildlife.
Belmonts Blue Lagoon, or Wards reservoir, is the reason why, when I tell anyone in the NW where I live, they know exactly where, and say how lucky I am.
Now, due to a lack of funding - only £40,000, the reservoir is being drained.
The Facebook site shows before and after images.
What it doesnt show is the the odonata, butterflies, snakes (I saw a baby adder today) newts, various birds, otter (suggested from scat) and other smaller mammals all reliant on this reservoir.
I met some locals there today, who have set up a comittee and asked if the site has been surveyed for wildlife properly. The local councillor was not 100 percent sure, citing that the chap involved was more of a birder. She is however sending me a list with his observations.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Incidentally, the chap that owns the reservoir is the same bloke that owns the land out the back of my house that has been allowed to deteriorate, with dangers to wildlife.
If you are on Facebook please join, and lend your support, and make suggestions where you can.
Thanks guys.
Andrew

This link took me to a link that worked. We used to live in Helmshore, anything that helps round there is worthwhile.

| | | Re: Please support I have been having a good look over this campaign and it really looks to have a good set of individuals behind it, and support from local councillors.
I really think it would be super to reverse this decision. Everyone associates the village with the reservoir and some of the anecdotes I have read have been great.
Thanks to those who have already got behind it
