| | | Re: Save your local pub It seems to be the same in where I used to live in West London, more of my old haunts have closed down and the sites turned into flats that I care to think of. Round here I am pleased to say the pubs still seem to be getting by. |

| | | Re: Save your local pub I saw this earlier and was counting up, here in SW London we seem to have lost most of them, of about 15 that were within walking distance only 3 are still traditioal pubs - the other are restaurants, winebars or Estate agents
We have also lost Youngs brewery which is about to be 2 thirty story blocks of flats on an island in a very busy crossroads, which are still on the Saxon layout of the original village. They used to deliver to a lot of their own pubs with beautiful horses and the brrels on carts.

| | | Re: Save your local pub I'm not a Pub person myself, but I do have a Theory behind Pub closures, and it goes something like this...
I think the Government want people to stay at home in the evenings, it's far easier to control people in their own homes than it is on our streets, It's a far cheaper option all round.
I can buy a bottle of Wine for £3.99, I'd need a lot more money for a few drinks down the Pub. |

| | | Re: Save your local pub Pubs, shut them for all I care. Cheaper to get beer/lager in supermarkets and drink in peace in the house. Pubs are not the same nowadays, my local pub has kids shouting and running about, staff don't care much. It's like a Kindergarten and what there charge now is way off my budget. |

| | | Re: Save your local pub I never thought I'd see the day when I would agree with fm's sentiments, but if I thought any campaign would see a return to winter days, supping real ale and home made soup, served by a friendly buxom local lass, at a cosy, welcoming country pub, with oak beams, a dart board and couple of large dogs drying off in front of a roaring fire, I would happily subscribe. But taking a walk break at my nearly empty countryside local, leaving my dog tethered outside, and trying to order a pint of best and a burger and chips from someone who doesn't understand basic english, all in a themed lacklustre atmosphere and paying over £12 for the privilege, is fast becoming a luxury I can well do without.

| | | Re: Save your local pub In my courting days, many moons ago. I used to drink in the village pub abouit 2 miles away, always busy and a lovely pub it was. Then someone bought it out and stripped the interior out and it's not same, as I knew it. Hardly anyone go's in, except for meals. the lager costs £3.10, I can go into the pub in Middlesbrough in the centre and get the same lager for £1.20.
A lot as to do with the No-Smoking ban, which was a good and bad thing. Not forgetting the Supermarket selling 2 cases of lager for £ |

But they're still brewing? Somewhere? Or is that why I've not seen Youngs for some time |
