| | | Bonnie's Tale - a short animation in support of seals The following link is to a short animation (voiced by Richard Briers) to highlight the Advocates for Animals pledge to 'Lookout for Seals': Bonnie's Tale - a short film narrated by Richard Briers
Please consider signing this pledge. |

I am not commenting on the FAQ, I didn't see or read it, its whereabouts was not made clear in the post.
Going back to the video and commentary, apparently "Bonnie was overjoyed to be pregnant."
I'm sorry, but that kind of comment pretty much defines no credibility whatsoever.
I rest my case. |

I wouldn't bother if I were you, I've just had a look at the FAQ.
Here's an excerpt:
A typical case occurred during the close season in 2006 at the Point of Vastray, Orkney, when four grey adult seals, all female and pregnant, and one juvenile, were found dead with gunshot injuries to their heads. The surrounding area was left covered in blood but, although police investigated the incident, no-one was charged.
I would like to know why the author thought to include the line "The surrounding area was left covered in blood".
Seems to me that the author is trying again to use emotive language and imagery to coerce those who may easily be coerced by such things, into signing the petition.
Now, if this was a WAB poll I wouldn't be at all bothered, I would probably just Tut a bit and roll my eyes. But as far as I can tell, this is a blatant attempt to trick people into signing the petition, who, given the time to think about things, may actually decide to do otherwise. But of course by then it is too late.
But this isn't a WAB poll, it is something that might actually affect the course of legislation. If a large list of objectors can be produced, by whatever means, it may well carry some weight.
Perverting the course of justce is illegal in this country and can carry a severe sentence. Perverting the course of legislation, though, seems to be fair game, otherwise our prisons would be full of Polititians.
I see this video as a cynical attempt to pervert the legislative procedure by preying on the vulnerable.

Harrumph. | I dont think that seal culling is justified and would sign a petition against it, if it were promoted by a mainstream organisation - however I wont sign anything that AfA are involved with period
and yes i agree with doggle that this film is blatant anthropormphising propoganda - setting out to appeal to those who see the countryside through rose tinted specs - "overjoyed to be pregnant" my fat...

I believe the majority of people are more than capable of grasping the hard facts, regardless of any 'emotive language' or 'imagery' used: "Populations of common seals have declined dramatically - by around 40 per cent - in some parts of Scotland over the last 5 years."
Similarly, the IFAW cite: There has been a sharp decline in the number of harbour seals around the British coastline. Between 2000 and 2007 the number found around the coast of Scotland and England declined by 56 per cent from 36,345 to 23,277.
I find this worrying. Nothing rose-tinted about those statistics. As I’ve already said, the film isn’t compulsory viewing. You can skip the film and go direct to the info pages, as I did, or do a little more research online. Quote:
