| | | Support additions to South Downs National Park
This is a campaign with a good chance of success...but a risk of failure if concerned people don't make representations in sufficient numbers by the dealine (13th July 2009)
The new South Downs National Park was confirmed by the Secretary of State, Hiliary Benn MP and is larger than many feared. The much publicised Western Weald is in there. Great result!
Furthermore the Secretary of State has recommended several other areas for addition that weren't in the original plan.
The principal one is ALICE HOLT FOREST ,the ancient Saxon hunting forest located between Farnham in Surrey and Alton in Hampshire.
Although Mr Benn is "minded" to include it , he must consult on the issue. Only two years ago there was a dreadful proposal to flatten 40 acres of Forest and build a holiday camping village: so protection is needed and developers may come out of the woodwork to scupper the inclusion of the Forest in the National Park.
Please help us do a "belt and braces" to ensure Alice Holt and other areas go in by filling out the pdf form on DEFRA's website and making your views known by 13th JULY 2009 http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-cou...ition-form.pdf
