| | | Strimmer Campaign Hi all.
Hedgehogs are being killed and maimed by strimmers and lawnmowers. This is a growing problem.
Many Hedgehogs die because of this, or end up with multiple injuries. This is adding to the Hedgehogs decline- they are now endangered.
It is not just Hedgehogs that are being killed in this way, but other wildlife that sleeps in long grass too.
You can help now by signing the strimmer campaign.
The aim is to get strimmer companies to put a clear warning symbol on the strimmer, as well as to raise awarness.
If you would like to sign the campaign, go to: Srimmers
or The European Hedgehog | Do you care?
Thank you.
Bethany.

| | | Re: Strimmer Campaign its certainly one i would support - i'd go further and ban the electric strimmer. Petrol driven brushcutters are much less likely to injure wildlife because they are sufficiently noisy that the wildlife wakes up and pootles off.
and if gardeners dont want to use a noisy petrol strimmer they could always resort to shears.

| | | Re: Strimmer Campaign I own a grass cutting and mowing business and frequently cut waist-length grass.
I always allow plenty of time before starting work, to conduct a search of my target area.
When I explain what I'm doing, the customers are really good about it, often take an active interest and are usually amazed at the amount of creatures that I gather up.
I totally agree that a warning should be placed on all domestic and commercial grass cutting equipment as it appears to be ignorance of the threat rather than any lack of compassion that is the problem.
If the customers have children, I encourage them to help with the search. It's great fun for them hopefully will give them some awareness for the future.
