This is a link to an ePetition to the Scottish Government to assist efforts to establish a network of formal biological data-sharing partnerships all over Scotland.
The Scottish Parliament e-Petitions: View/Sign Petition
The petition reads; "Calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to establish integrated local and national structures for collecting, analysing and sharing biological data to inform decision making processes to benefit biodiversity".
There are many ways that this could benefit us, not just those of us who live in Scotland, but our many and varied visitors. If we know what species are in which areas, then this can be used to inform both local and national government, on planning, development and policy issues. It will also highlight areas where data is missing, and more work needs to be done.
If you enjoy watching wildlife in Scotland, please have a look at the link and consider signing it. I'm sure that knowing what sensitive or rare species are in an area, before development is considered, is better than trying to identify them retrospectively.
