In my darker moments I too consider it possible that human being may largely wipe ourselves out, we don't seem to be able to live very sustainably that's for certain and in that respect we've evolved quite poorley. However, I think it's highly unlikely that all of our species would be lost so called 'primitive' tribes who are still able to live entirely off the land are potentially the most likely to be able to maintain a viable population. And I personally think that the rest of the flora and fauna of the planet would be quick to recover. I do a lot of surveys on derelict land and within two years plants already start to seriously 'reclaim' the land.
As for venturing out into space and becoming a more active part of a wider ecology - who says that's a good thing? On a basic level - look what happened when the europeans suddenly arrived in the Americas, all those diseases brought to a land with no natural imunity, basal instincts - that still run through our blood- battles over territory, resources and the opportunity to reproduce kicked off big- style would we really want this to occur on a scale that involves other planets?
we describe ourselves as a very successful highly evolved species - but seemingly for some of our species we have become dangerously specialist at surviving purely in our human created environments.
Put me in the wilderness with a knife and the clothes on my back and I probably wouldn't survive that long, I have evolved to a point where I am unable to survive in the natural environment. - Ok I may never have to but in addition, I am unable to create myself much of the human environment I require to survive, I can't make electricity, I can't make metal, I can't mine for oil, I can't make petrol or diesel, I'm not certain I could even build a safe wall......
Obviously with enough of the right books or help from other people with the right skills I could probably survive but what if I didn't have access to those things...... What then?
Is it really wise for any species to evolve to this point?
Perhaps Dolphins and Chimps etc are perfectly adapted for their environment and there's just no need for further evolution which is why they have remained as they are for so long maybe? |

I just remember being really confused when learning history how we could go from the time of the romans with straight roads, plumbing and heating to bendy roads and sewage in the streets and then it occured to me if the array of experts were lost from our society today what could I acutally do to produce the lifestyle I'm used to and worryingly it seems not much......................................... |

We can all learn from our mistakes, no need to delete everything.
Harmonious2006 can of course start a fresh thread, that may be the best idea. |

You have brought up some interesting points, I still think though if we evolve into space with love and bliss at our core how can spreading our gene through universe be a bad thing, yes at the moment if we ventured out it would probably lead to coorparate planet wars, but I am hoping that one day, we will live in hramony with the earth each other and the universe.
Thats the dream anyway, I just hope we make it reality. |

I have captain KEV, however I feel that forum is more for the educational boffins or PHD wannabees.
No response of yet,
I will however keep the faith.

Well I wouldn't quite describe myself that way, but I am a member.
