| | | Development bordering Brickfields Park. This is a request for information or sources with respect to rights of way and land development.
For those that know Brickfields Park, it would appear that part of of the park bordering Chrismas Lodge Home (recently closed), is to be sold for development. Whilst not against such development and although we think there could be a better use for the land, we have found out and had confirmed, that the boundary to Chrismas Lodge is in fact larger than that laid out by the properties fences. On subsequent sale the new owner could exercise their rights and claim the land to it's full extent and with it one of our public entrances.
We are currently negotiating with the Local Authority (park owners) and County Authority (Chrismas Lodge landowners) with a hope of resolving this issue but if anybody has experience of this type of problem please contact me. For a map of the affected area see - http://www.brickfieldspark.org/news20060615.htm
Many thanks. |

Quick update - This campaign is still ongoing, we are just about to publish a report on alternative uses for Chrismas Lodge which will be presented to all parties concerned. It will be available from these websites in about a week - Report on Proposed Alternative uses for Chrismas Lodge and Report on Proposed Alternative uses for Chrismas Lodge - it will then force any developer into doing environmental impact studies for the proposed development and show up just what it will do to the local environment.
Keep an eye out and please support our campaign. There is a petiton but individual contact is better, a petition only counts as one vote against a planning application, all individual contacts count as a vote each. |

You could get a lot of support through all of us that way.
Alternatively, we'll all come down there and burrow in like Swampy used to

The problem with petitions is that they ony "count" as one vote. As far as planning departments and Councils go (at least ours anyway), a petition no matter how many signatures there are, is only seen as one response to an application.
Another problem is catching the planning application. By the time they get to the local paper its to late, our council post online weekly, but there is a catch - if its an outline application the decision has already been made and these are more often agreed in the end anyway. An element of second guessing the planning process comes into play, this is why we are trying to keep our "problem" in the news - Report on Proposed Alternative uses for Chrismas Lodge.
It is better therefore, for each person to write and register their objection. We are looking into having hundreds (thousands) of letters copied and getting each repondent to fill in their name, address and siganture and we will then send these to the Council. Paper, envelopes, labels and printing is now cheap with personal computers and online suppliers.
But, I will look into an online setup as the wider communities help is another string to our bow. Many thanks for your help. |

Lots of interest since the report went live, with a very swift and vociferous reaction from one of the ruling junta, struck a nerve there me thinks. We are now starting meetings with local councillors and interested parties and we have also made the front page of our local papers, so we are keeping the situation in the public eye. All avenues are being explored incuding the conveyance for the site as there seem to be several errors in it, and other conveyances and leases dating back to the mid 1800's. We are also going to get a survey of the site so ascertain the geological structure and suitability for development (its rubble infill on a clay layer over London gravels all on the side of a hill). A news letter to the locality concerned and letter campaign are planned.
Just in case you don't know, a petition in response to a planning application only counts for ONE vote for/against that application, much better is to get individual letters, we aim to canvas the local residents with several versions of a pre-printed letter for them to address and sign as each one will count individually. It's lots of work but worth it.
Apologies but this is keeping me away from WAB, but needs must .......... | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
