Banded Demoiselle Survey

http://www.brc.ac.uk/demoiselle/id.htm

Does what it says on the tin - noticed large numbers of shots of these beauties going up - let's help get an idea as to distribution in the uk!

I've not seen any, but have had two brief visits from the Beautiful Demoiselle this past week - both times were just a fly-by tho

Re: Banded Demoiselle Survey

Believe this year is the first I've seen resident Demoiselles at our river - regularly see up to 5 along the trent here.

Thanks for posting this info, Carl. I do love it when any of my sightings can be put to this kind of helpful use - all adds to the happiness factor of seeing these beauties in the first place! I saw some male Banded demoiselles along the river near our house recently...and have sent in my results to the survey...

Re: Banded Demoiselle Survey

Willow, my latest sighting update, along one mile of river, is about 20 males, 5 females. And not one last year! Will think of emailing them to see if any other species would need surveying?

Re: Banded Demoiselle Survey

Carl - that's great news about your local Banded Demoiselles! That's a great idea about emailing...I also saw, when I was doing a bit of nosing around on the BRC website, that they've got a brilliant page that lists (with really useful links), all the other organsations doing surveys...plants, mammals, frogs, reptiles etc...What a great resource!

http://www.brc.ac.uk/recording_schemes.asp

I'm going to be surfing all those websites for hours....well, I would be if I didn't have to go and do some work now

Re: Banded Demoiselle Survey

Hiya All
Got plenty down here at Lower Woods Reserve in South Glos. Tried to take pictures last week but hornets were pouncing on them. I saw at least three taken by them in just a few minutes. The hornets were not to approachable so I had to back off.

Re: Banded Demoiselle Survey

Walked along the towpath of The Shropshire Union Canal between Audlem and Calveley about three weeks back and noticed a lot of these about. I must have seen at least 20 males and a similar number of females.

The link is really useful to see what other species are being recorded. Just follow the "Recording Schemes" link
