| | | Petition against Metaldehyde Slug Pellets There is currently a petition running to ban the use of Metaldehyde Slug pellets, these are the blue ones obtained very cheaply in most places. They are very toxic & dangerous to wildlife, pets & toddlers.
Please sign up, thanks everyone. Petition to: Ban Metaldehyde as a slug killer. |

BTW the makers claim metalaldehyde is not dangerous to wildlife - I remember a leaflet posted up at work. |

| | | Re: Petition against Metaldehyde Slug Pellets I've just tried to sign, but I don't think their website is working properly as it won't send me the confirmation email needed to add a signature to the petition.
But I will definitely try again another day though, as using this type of slug pellet is totally needless, and it makes me very cross that they are still on sale in every supermarket, garden centre, pound shop etc!!!
OK, I'm back off my soap box now. |

| | | Re: Petition against Metaldehyde Slug Pellets I found this piece on Metaldehyde. Metaldehyde
Interestingly the US Environmental Protection Agency classifies metaldehyde as a Restricted Use Pesticide because of its potential short-term and long-term effects on wildlife. All product labels must include the following statement on the front panel: ‘this pesticide may be fatal to dogs or other pets if eaten. Keep pets out of treated areas’(4). |

Signed but SHOULDN'T NEED TO | Er Kayleigh, I THINK we are in agreement on this issue, I am sure I have heard there are quite a few safe non chemical alternatives, which I WILL look for.
I wont roll my eyes ok

Annmaria | Sorry Ann,
I got the impression you were still using the Metaldehyde Slug Pellets..
There are alternatives but I find them pointless as the amount of plants I loose to slugs to be minimal.
I even grow Hostas in the ground they get a few holes but so what, the thrush is enjoying the snails. |
