| | | Campaign against glass bus shelters!!! Hey all,
Me and a friend recently done a survey on 15 bus stops in Ipswich over a month and found 61 Dead Birds that had flown into the glass backing of the bus shelters
I would like to start a campaign against these glass shelters. 61 Birds have lost their lives because of these. The death toll so far is:
37 Starlings
2 Song Thrush
3 BlackBirds
6 Robins
7 Woodpigeons
6 Feral Pigeons
I find this appauling in just 1 month 61 dead birds in 1 town.
Please help by sending campaings to your local Councils against these!!!
Thank you,
Jordan |

| | | Re: Campaign against glass bus shelters!!! Hmm, forgive me for my ignorance, but I think this is a somewhat odd argument. I can see what you mean that it's tragic that these birds die, but what are they going to do next? Campaign against windows? You can campaign and campaign, but nothing will happen to sort it...It's a very sad reality. I'm almost positive that if every member of this site, including myself, could click their fingers and sort the problem, then they would- but I think that the reality outweighs the problem...
Again, a sad situation, but nothing will get done- but by all means continue your campaign, and I wish you the absolute best of luck |

| | | Re: Campaign against glass bus shelters!!! In all my years of using bus stops I've never seen this or anything like it. I would suggest that there's something odd about the siting or structure of your particular bus shelters. In which case, no need to campaign against the shelters per se rather get them treated in some way that they don't attract birds or rather become visible to the birds. |

| | | Re: Campaign against glass bus shelters!!! Crested Newt, we had a similar problem with double glazed windows. If you look at them from certain angles the landscape is reflected and birds think they can fly straight through them. After some bird tragedies usually early in the morning, all the windows now have small stickers on them placed about two thirds of the way up to break up the reflection. It really works.
What you could do is get some stickers that can't be easily removed and go out to the bus shelters in your area and stick them on, or ask the council to do the same. |

| | | Re: Campaign against glass bus shelters!!! It doesn't have to be fancy bird silhoutte shapes stuck on - which could be peeled and 'piggled' off by local kids with nowt better to do - painting a black cross diagonally across each glass would work. All that is needed is black (or green if the shelters are green) paint, masking tape and a small paint brush.... request that the council does it - if you do it yourself it will be seen as vandalism and removed by the council - so get in touch - try your local councillor - get the local paper involved - get your pic in the paper asking for this job to be done - take photos of the dead birds - get local paper to photograph make a story out of it and I think you might find it will be done quite quickly

| | | Re: Campaign against glass bus shelters!!! RESULT!!!! council have darkened the glass and painted the bus shleters red. So the birds can't see through it and they notice it, and its been working. Over the last week no birds discovered dead. Touch wood, it will carry on that way. |
