| | | RSPCA Campaign Against Badger Cull petition Rather than put this link on the thread with the Government on line petition, I thought it better to start a new threat.
Here is petition to sign to go to Hilary Benn by the RSPCA. RSPCA || Campaigns |

| | | Re: RSPCA Campaign Against Badger Cull petition I've signed this as well. Obviously a very serious issue, and one that isn't going to go away. The farmers I speak to don't believe in a cull but are scared stiff of bTB in their cattle. |

| | | Re: RSPCA Campaign Against Badger Cull petition Well I certainly won't be signing it! As far as I am concerned, if, and I stress the word if, Badgers are an infection source for cattle then the sooner we get on with the job the better.
A question:- it is I think an established fact that Badgers carry BTb - what is the effect on the Badgers - are they passive carriers or are they liable to eventually die of the disease?
I would suggest we drop the emotion and follow the science, once a scientific concensus is arrived at.
Regards
mac

mac | theres already a ten page thread on the Badger cull so i'm not going to rehash the whole argument here.
but in short i agree lets drop the emotion - on both sides of the argument - and follow the science, which overwhelmingly indicates that Badgers are not a primary source of btb in cattle (see the posts by "Brains" amongst others on the other thread for references etc.)

| | | Re: RSPCA Campaign Against Badger Cull petition How can you possibly advocate that one animal has to die to facilitate anothers life progress. Surely that is for nature to decide and not your stinking car drivers and their poxy mobile phones. Your some kind of JOKER!

I certainly don't think cars are doing a great job. Badgers are just carrying out their natural instincts, cars are man-made. |

| | Re: RSPCA Campaign Against Badger Cull petition Badgers most certainly are not vermin as you put it - rats and mice are considered vermin. Badgers are our largest carnivores and while it is unfortunate that they sometimes eat ground nesting birds you have to say that that is a natural part of their diet.
However, I did hear of people in Spain treating Robins as a delicacy and actually eating them - this I find abhorent - to eat a songbird is a crime against nature and people who do so are so are no better than bottom feeders in a pond who know no better

Hunterswind while we are on your subject of what you call vermin, how would you classify a Fox? |

I spend nights trying to watch them, and sometimes don't see any at all, although they are there. They are one of the oldest inhabitants of the British Isles, here long before us lot came to wreck the place! |

Also a powerful jaw and bite. Not particularly fluffy There is a long thread on WAB about this subject. |

Do you always stereotype nature-orientated people ?

| | | Re: RSPCA Campaign Against Badger Cull petition The problem is the likes of Bill Oddie who knows very little about wildlife has made easy to film animals i.e Deer, Badgers and Foxes wildlife superstars. Now everyone with a telly thinks they are rare etc. I would love to challenge Bill Oddie and a friend vs. Myself and a friend to a televised competition on British wildlife knowledge the looser to donate £20,000 to the charity of the winners choice !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

We all contribute something in different ways.
