Angry Virgin Media tortoise and rocket advert

I've just been checking my email and found this ad for Virgin Media broadband on the MSN homepage. Basically, you take your mouse, and move a match to light a rocket strapped to the back of a tortoise. Rocket takes off and tortoise is left shell-less. It will no doubt inspire some of the lesser individuals we have in the country to find random animals and do the same while they can get their hands on rockets. For tortoise read Rabbit, Hedgehog, dog, cat, guinea pig.... There is an ad feedback link - please use it!

Re: Virgin Media tortoise and rocket advert

I've just filled the feedback form with my view point, it is definately in bad taste considering how many animals are really going to be harmed by fireworks

Provided plenty of negative feedback for them to choke on (I mean 'digest').

Re: Virgin Media tortoise and rocket advert

I do have a sense of humour but that's just not funny, especially at this time of year when yobs do torture animals with fireworks. We have Virgin package and I will complain.

Re: Virgin Media tortoise and rocket advert

I've complained, however as they are a big corporate I doubt they will pay much mind.

However, I am also complaining to the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) and would suggest others do the same.

I think even small numbers of complaints are considered in these cases but I think you're right that the ASA would take more notice. Whenever you hear of record complaints about something it tends to still be small figures as most people can't be bothered. Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells. Not.

Re: Virgin Media tortoise and rocket advert

Wel clearly our few complaints on the website didn't do any good. Maybe these mindless idiots would have done this anyway but I have little doubt they got the idea from the advert.
There is also a thread discussing this on the Reptiles and Amphibians forum here:
Cruelty Beggars Belief

Re: Virgin Media tortoise and rocket advert

I can't believe some brain donors have actually done this, makes me mad. Seems too closely connected to not be coincidence and just shows how tasteless that advert was.
How can we complain directly to Virgin? I've found the following where it says you can email them for general things, not sure if it's just for technical stuff though.

Contact us - Virgin Media

Re: Virgin Media tortoise and rocket advert

It's disgusting that people would want to do that to a terrapin! People are all against adverts that offend people, but they don't give a though about how it could inspire people to hurt animals!
Also, a slight sidetrack, when things like this incident happen, often the blame gets put on teenagers, which means that all of us, even those who love animals, get the blame. I'm personally fed up with it.
Animals attached to fireworks= sick!

BTW Kiwi, love your signature ^_^

Re: Virgin Media tortoise and rocket advert

Find the culprits and tie them to a very large rocket and set it off and leave em to their own devices! What they/he/she did is cruelty beyond imagination. Why are some humans soooo callous, spiteful and vindictive? Karma!
