I think all the contenders have a good reason and cause for lottery money, probably like thousands more various projects. I do agree with cybershot this is a great project! These ancient oaks should be preserved and more planted, they are our history and our future and should be cherished .

Well, can't object to woodland conservation but £50M is a heck of a lot of money - what will it be used for? After all "wild" areas don't need that much management? Sounds as if much of this will go on built infrastructure and tree-planting rather than conservation - and most of that will probably go on administrators and consultants!

The project has made it through to the last 4, along with the Eden Project, Sustrans and the Black Country bids, to be considered in a winner takes all vote.

I just hope they don't overdo the tree-planting! Could be good if it provides a pedestrian route between Sheffield and Nottingham.

£50m Thats a lot of money, surly it could be better split up and used. I'm sure the 47 wildlife trusts would each accept a little over a million pounds.
