Badgers - Black and White campaign

I hope that no one takes offence at this post, and I fervently hope that this will not become a huge debate that ends in post being erased. I only wish to draw people's attention to the fact that Badgers may die needlessly because of a proposed cull.

Whilst I have EVERY sympathy for farmers who 'feel' that Badger's are the cause of TB in their herds, I don't believe it to be so scientifically proven that it requires the deaths of hundreds of Badgers.

I and hundreds of folks like me have already risen to the request of wildlife groups etc., and sent letters and emails to DEFRA requesting that this not to distant cull is stopped, before it's too late too save the European Badger from near or total extinction in this country.

If you DON't agree with me, then please feel free to start another thread, but I beg you to allow others to make up their own minds up by visiting this site

Good for you Tragus. I don't feel it is justified to cull Badgers either. Strange, I just can't imagine anyone wanting to get involved in such a scheme.

The nice man from Cornwall Badgers put across the arguments well I do not, myself, see the need for a mass cull(kill) it does seem to be an easy option
This gives new meaning to the term Badgering(to harass persistently)

Well done for starting this thread, Tragus!

It's so important that everyone knows that they can have a say in this. I sent my email off to DEFRA in protest against the cull a few weeks ago. Every extra voice added counts...Let's hope that loads more people will do the same in the remaining hours left...

C'mon folks.....time is ticking away....

The Wildlife Trusts and The Woodland Trust are amongst the groups voicing their opposition to the cull, and their websites have loads of info on this issue too. An email can also be sent through the Woodland Trust site to DEFRA to add your voice to the campaign. As Pat says...it only takes a couple of clicks...

Hi Tragus - I'm a farmer and I've sent them my e-mail, I love Badgers and have no problem whatsoever with them being on our farm.

The proposed cull is just a shameless effort to deflect blame from DEFRA who spread the disease by exporting cattle from infected areas without testing them to re-populate farms whose herds were wiped out during the foot and mouth outbreak.

I urge everyone to send that e-mail and prevent a grave injustice being done to one of our best loved and most victimised mammals.

I've added my support too. I've read quite a lot about this issue and I increasingly conclude that Badgers are being used as scapegoats. Thanks, Tragus, for alerting us to this petition.

Hi

I have added my voice to this campaign. What benefit Badger culling would have is beyond me. We need to protect this species for future generations to enjoy.

If anyone hasn't added their voice to this campaign. please do so. If we don't speak out for Badgers and other wildlife then who will.

It looks like nowadays people dont want any other animal just the ones that are useful.

You see with the bird flu, people are being afraid of cats, perroquets, etc etc.

, killing them or throwing away.

Mirror this morning had news on Sir David Attenborough stating his opinion on the proposed cull and that there was no scientific evidence to say culling is the best option.

Public perception can only be helped - and I'm no fan of celebrity!
