| | | New butterfly report .... and a recommended book As you may be aware, most of the UK butterfly species are in serious decline as a result of habitat destruction, pollution and climate change although there is increasing evidence that in the case of some species conservation programes are reversing declines.
The Butterfly Conservation has now issued a new report which is the first assessment of the state of the UK's butterflies this century.
The report can be found by following this link and then clicking on the pdf. download link on the right side of the page.
For all you butterfly fans, I can also thoroughly recommend this book which I have just bought .... "Discover butterflies in Britain" by David Newland. This is a guide to the 58 UK resident species plus regular migrants. In addition there is information on where to see butterflies with descriptions, maps and photographs of 66 sites. Excellent!
I bought mine here where currently there is a 34% discount on the RRP.
Now just waiting for the sun to come and out and for the spring/summer to arrive .

I know it's not UK, but it shows how much this 'enlightened and sophisticated' country we live in lags behind the rest of the world in it's thinking. In my humble opinion you understand...

| | | Re: New butterfly report .... and a recommended book You mean you can not see the UK Highways Agency closing a lane of the M25 or M1 in similar circumstances? .... no, nor can I.
Remarkable story from Taiwan.

Richard | Yep-got the book Richard. Great isn't it. That alongside The Millennium Atlas of Butterflies in Britain and Ireland are a must for Lep fans.
My local Butterfly Conservation branch are always on the lookout for new members if anyone wants to pm me.

Richard | I don't see why not; after all aren't all animals protected by law... Oh yes, I forgot, except when it proves inconvenient

| | | Re: New butterfly report .... and a recommended book How long did it take for your book to arrive? I have ordered a few times from these and had to wait weeks for the item to come, and the last order I had to cancel as they said it may not be available, after waiting two months for my book. I may get the butterfly book its sounds interesting. |

| | | Re: New butterfly report .... and a recommended book thanks Richard, I'll have a read of that report. Thanks also for the Amazon link to the Newland book, I meant to order it some time ago and didn't get around to it. I've now ordered it
Kayleigh, Amazon claim it is in stock so they're estimating delivery on Tues or Wed.

I have never had delivery problems with Amazon and I think this book arrived well within a week of ordering if I recall correctly.
This butterfly book is strongly recommended if this is one of your interests.

| | | Re: New butterfly report .... and a recommended book The Taiwanese are amazingly keen on conservation. A high proportion of Taiwan is now conservation land. And instead of the politicians just blowing hot air about it, they act, too! Quite an example. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
