White butterfly for ID please

Seen at Dawlish Warren last week. Unfortunately I didn't see the wings open.

I would say that from the markings you can see that it is probably a Large White.

To me, the marking is more horizontal than vertical. So this means Small White:

UK Butterflies - Small White - Pieris rapae

If it is then I also think female due to the intensity and number of spots.
