Can anyone identify this field guide from my description?

Hi guys,

I think there is a field guide to butterflies that has illustrations of fritillaries all on one page for comparison. I'm sure I saw someone using one like this recently. I have Lewington's pocket guide and it's not that. I have tried Google and drawn a blank. I am wondering if anyone has a guide that fits this description and can tell me what it's called.

Is that the field guide to 'field guides of britain and europe' or the field guide to 'field guides of the world' which has a wider range but is less detailed?

I have to confess that I prefer the Field Guide to Field Guides that uses drawings rather than the ones that use photos. Points of interest for identifcation to publisher level can be subtly enhanced without skewing the picture.

And, hey, we are all discussing what we like about field guides. Not a clowning about thread.

I don't know if this helps but could it be Collins Field Guide - Butterflies of Britain and Europe?

The reviews suggest it could be but I have'nt seen a copy so I am not sure, I have The Pocket Guide to Butterflies - Whalley & Lewington but the Fritillery's are spread over 19 pages.

Unfortunately that one is unavailable on Amazon. Although I found another that gets equally good reviews:

I know this is not what you're after Deb and I hope you don't mind me mentioning it but I was given a very useful publication last night and the images of fritillaries on one page made me mindful of this thread.

Butterfly Conservation Scotland's "Butterflies and day-flying moths of Dumfries & Galloway and Ayrshire -an identification guide" Area specific I know but a cracking booklet with twelve insects on the left view page and text on the right.

At the back several books are recommended, these two might interest you.
