I agree with aeshna5, "The Butterflies of Britain + Ireland by Jeremy Thomas + Richard Lewington" is a really good book, clear pictures and an interesting read.

I'm slowly getting rid of most of my fiction books to make room for more natural history stuff. I've started getting new fiction books for my Kindle where possible, and those books that I know I'll re-read will slowly be replaced as the price drops for Kindle editions. I'll still keep some books, full sets of hardbacks for example, but I prefer the Kindle for general reading.

I have taken to keeping my nature books in B&Q tool bags, that I can lug into and out of the car. Other wise I never seem to have the right reference to hand when on a day's outing.

It has also partially sorted the problem alluded to above of 'piles'.
