| | | Re: Another ID? I think it could be a Silver-washed Fritillary (female). I've compared the pattern with that in my ID book and it looks "spot" on (excuse the pun).
But I'm a novice.

| | | Re: Another ID? I think this is the dark green fritillary as it looks identical to my recent photo .And there is no H pattern on the wing which is a silver washed characteristic as stated by jason in hopping mads other thread. Also silver washed frits do not have the white edge around the bottom edge of the wings.just my opinion |

| | | Re: Another ID? Ive just had a look at some of my silver washed fritillary pics and the H theory only seems to fit some butterflies. The dark green fritillary i photographed has a noticable white edge to the rear wings, something nearly all my silver washed fritillary photos do not have or if they do it is very faint. As the H theory does not seem to apply to all silver washed fritillary i am now not so confident . |

| | | Re: Another ID? Doesn't that "H" pattern you describe only apply to the males of the silver-washed frit? those lines are the sex brands aren't they? My first though looking at the picture was a female Silver-washed as well, but could be wrong.

| | | Re: Another ID? Its only the males with H patterns, not that I have heard of that description before applying to the scent scales, nice one . Female Silver washed Fritillaries do have a white border although in the photograph this was accentuated by the angle of photograph. The obvious answer to the question is get an eyeful of the underside
