| | Skippers and meadow brown? I went out today to try get a more frontal view of a skipper so i can try distinguish between the small and Essex skippers. This one looks like it has black on the underneath of the antenna, suggesting it would be a Essex skipper. Would you agree?
Also this looks to me like a meadow brown but it doesn't have any eyespots which confused me. Is it really a meadow brown? If so, is it rare to have no eye spots?
Thanks |

| | | Re: Skippers and meadow brown? Agree with Johnny. The wing patterning and large size distinguishes the large skipper from small/essex. Some things are easier than you think! |

| | | Re: Skippers and meadow brown? Ryjocl visit the U.K Butterflies site, it's pretty good and has photos of most species and sexes with wings open and closed. I use it if I am uncertain on a find.
