Yellow body black spots id please

Saw it today in garden.

About the size of a meadow brown (smaller if anything).

Yellow body, with black spots on it, not hairy.

Wings predominantly white, but checkerboarded like frittilaries. Orange/brown patch on the outer wingtips.

Rested with wings open.

Didn't strike as a strong flyer, but it is a windy day.

No camera picture sorry.

Sounds a bit like the butterfly I saw yesterday here in coastal Somerset, I'm also struggling to id.
Mine wouldn't keep still, didn't notice body colour but the chequerboard wings sound the same. Didn't think the orange blotch was on the very tip of the wings though. I wonder whether it's the same?

Don't know if it this, but have a look at the Magpie moth (Abraxas grossulariata). If its not this moth could you describe how it differs. Thanks...

Thanks for the efforts on my behalf so far.
Just for the record this one was seen on the Essex coast.

Closest thing I have seen to what I saw.

The differences were :
thinner body.
The wing markings were not "blotchy" but were more like a lattice work of dark veins and there were splashes of colour within those segmented areas, a bit like stain glass windows. The predominant colour of the wings was white.

The wings were not swept back like this, but held more in the style a peacock butterfly would as example.

Both sides of the wings, ie opened and closed showed these markings.

The wings had a lot of marbled white about them, but the body was bright yellow with black spots on it.

I am supposing mine was some form of magpie moth on the basis of body colour alone.
