Holly Blue

Normally they are perpetual motion but this little chap(-ess?) just sat there for ages while I snapped away, is it just resting or something else? Seems to be nectaring on something, maybe the sap from the leaves?

Maybe there was some honeydew on the leaves which the Holly Blue is gaining some sustenance from. I've often found them down on damp bare ground taking up moisture + maybe salts. In the UK it's been usually single individuals but in other countries I've seen groups of Holly Blue do this.

We saw the brightest HB ever last Sunday. Maybe it was recently emerged. It allowed us to watch it, in a similar pose to the one in the photo. It had come down the the pond we were digging and onto the wet soil. I assume it was consuming minerals, moisture or nutrients. I've never seen this in my garden, but I don't have much exposed wet mud there.
