Male or Female Small White Butterfly

Hi Guys,

Is this little fella male or female, or can this not be determined from the shot?

I'm not really sure you can tell from that view alone, although I'm happy to be proved wrong. I'd say it's more likely to be a male though, on females the bolder spots on the upperside often seem to show through quite well on the underside, plus males of the white butterflies tend to emerge a bit earlier ready for when the females are on the wing!
