| | | Butterflies in your area - search here? UK Butterfly Plants - Attract and feed the butterflies in your postcode area using wild flowers
Enter the first part of your postcode and press search. It tells you what butterflies you might be able to find in your area, along with any specialist needs.
No idea how accurate it is, but I shall investigate.

| | | Re: Butterflies in your area - search here? Thanks Debs. It is very general as it goes by your post code's main town and seems to cover just about everything within that area but it's still nice to see the butterflies listed.
Some of them I know I have a cat in hell's chance of getting anywhere near my garden so there would be no point in buying the plants they sell and they really ought to make that clear. For example chalkhill blue or adonis blue won't relocate to here no matter how much food plant I put in as the habitat is completely wrong for them.
Quite a few butterflies I know are here are missing off the list too; it doesn't list brown hairstreak, purple hairstreak, purple emperor, white admiral or silver washed fritillary all of which are either in my garden already or fairly close by.
Still, if you like buying butterfly plants it's a good resource. |

| | | Re: Butterflies in your area - search here? Mmmm, not good with Hairstreaks is it! The distribution data that they are relying on does seem flawed.
I only found the plant database later as initially I was clicking the name of each butterfly and not the picture. This is useful for me as I was searching for ideas for plants to buy. 'Buy' was included in my search terms when I found the site. Having said that, I couldn't see how to buy the plants from them anyway (browser issue?) so for me it is just a useful tool, and I'll buy/acquire them elsewhere.
