One very, very happy person here. | Nice one! Each female usually just lays 1 egg on a flower as the larvae tend to be cannibalistic. Sometimes other females will also lay an egg on the same flower which is when the fun begins. |

| | | Re: Orange tip Yes, Nige Orange Tips are camera shy for me as well. And I have been using a 180 mm macro lens plus 1.4x converter.
I only managed a couple of snaps last year, although they kept flying around my head and landing on brambles a couple of feet away; but as soon as I picked up my camera . . .
Managed a couple of better shots over the past 2 days, subject to double checking during editing. But that perfect shot still requires a bit more time.
Yet the Speckled Woods come to me and 'ask to be photographed'.
First Wall Brown of the year today. Also a bit camera shy but I eventually managed a confirmation snap. |

| | | Re: Orange tip Looking at my records, I see that April 17 was my first sighting this year; four males. But that was earlier than last year, which was 07 May.
And this photo from today is probably the best that I have managed so far.
It 'led me a bit of a dance' though and kept flying around me then landing close by; and of course, taking off as soon as I had achieved a good focus on the camera.
One day I will find a 'tame' specimen which will pose for me. |

I could watch them for hours...
