Blue butterflies

Having just read about 'Blue' butterflies, I thought I would mention that I have seen one.

Now all it mentioned was that they are based in the South. Last year I visited some fishing ponds in Bilsthorpe, Notinghamshire. On that day I took a picture of one of these blue butterflies. Are they supposed to be so far north or do they actually cover most of England.

Sorry if it sounds silly but, new to this type of thing. I had not noticed insect etc until I got my camera.

If you look at this link you will see just how far north something like a Holly Blue goes.

I'm guessing from your location it's most likely to be a Common or Holly Blue.

Common Blue is found all the way to the north of Scotland.

We have Common and Holly Blue on our greenway and are working hard to create a habitat that will be suitable for Small Blue.

I planted a load of Kidney Vetch seeds in a sheltered grassy area. Hopefully these will flourish, unless the rabbits get to them before they have chance to get going.
