| | Found a tortoiseshell in house, Wot now? Heor she was sat on the bathroom window. I have read that if warm enough they will come out of hibernation early. He or she is alive now and ready to find some ladies or guy butterflies to party with.
I have taken him/her out of the bathroom and put in bedroom where it wont get damp or drown in the toilet.
My question. Whats the best thing to do now?
Many thanks. |

| Release it in a frost free sheltered location. Such as a garage, shed, log pile, old rabbit burrow, stone wall with gaps, dense hedge etc. |

My daughter has three tortoiseshell's hibernating in her bedroom, she always has her top window open in summer, so they will go out that way in Spring, tortoiseshell's seem to have a habit of hibernating in houses, they seem to know which house to live in and who will not harm them.
I have them in my bedroom too as I have my window open in summer, I had one that came in every night in the summer, I have a net curtain on the window and I watched one day, she flew to the window, landed on the net curtain, then walked up and down a few times, then went right down to the bottom and underneath and out, they are clever little creatures, so if your window is open in Spring, your butterfly will be fine.
