| | | Dark Green or High Brown?
Photo taken back on 28th July on the South Downs near Alfriston.
I had assumed this was a Dark Green Fritillary, but now beginning to wonder if it might be a High Brown given the third spot looks slightly indented. Sorry for poor quality of photo.
Any opinions? |

| | Re: Dark Green or High Brown? Both species do look very similar on the upperwing, but on distribution it would have to be Dark Green. High Brown Fritillary is one of our rarest butterflies + is extinct in eastern England. The closest population to the South Downs is probably around Dartmoor! |

| | | Re: Dark Green or High Brown? Thanks for the reply. I should have checked the distribution and population size of the High Brown before making this suggestion! Very sad that this species has declined so much. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
