Good morning all
I was totally unable to get a shot of the spread wings of this fairly large butterfly. As soon as it settled, those wings were closed, but as far as I could tell, it was black and white above.
Please is anyone able to tell me what it is from just this picture ? The nearest I could guess at was a Grayling or Admiral.

Hi
It looks to me to be a Great Banded Grayling, Sadly not seen in the U.K. where are you here as its also absent from the North of France

Agree with Great Banded Grayling + as said not found in the UK. |

OK - I was in France. I'd no idea it isn't found in the UK, no wonder it doesn't appear in my book !!!
