| | | Re: Butterflies today In the garden yesterday afternoon after the sun finally came out: 1 Peacock, 1 Red Admiral, 1 Comma, 1 Common Blue, 1 Holly Blue and at least 6 Large Whites. Again, the buddlea not really attracting anything. But at least I am beginning to see more in the garden now so here's hoping, as this spell of better weather continues, there will be more. |

| | | Re: Butterflies today Surprised to see so many brimstones at Strumpshaw RSPB today. Single peacock on buddleia along Lackford Run. (Very few peacock last year in Norfolk so good to see.) Red admirals continuing to show in good numbers plus an unexpected holly blue - a species I normally see at dry places. |

| | | Re: Butterflies today I heared David Attenborough a few weeks ago on the radio saying he was concerned about the lack of butterflies this year. I had to agree as we had hardly seen any in our garden or whilst walking around locally but today in the warm sunshine we have seen plenty both in the garden and along the river estuary where we live. |

| | | Re: Butterflies today Also a tortoiseshell which wandered into the spare room. Not at all tatty, must've led a sheltered life.
Still a real shortage of butterflies in my immediate area though. A wee bit worrying really.

Where were the Purple Hairstreaks? I'm yet to see one still!

| | | Re: Butterflies today Literally dozens of Chalkhill Blues at Hexton CP, Herts today, I had to be careful not to tread on them. Males outnumbered females by about 4 to 1, hence scenes like this (young children look away now):
If you go there, were sensible footwear and watch out for holes, there are some very steep slopes but no dodgy carparks
