| | | Comma butterfly? Can anyone confirm this for me? Have had a couple spending the night on my hanging baskets! Not one I've seen in my garden before. More of an 'O' than a comma on the rear wing and photos I've looked at don't show the blue either. Was very brightly coloured on the other side (red or orange - moved too fast for me to get a good look!) |

| | | Re: Comma butterfly? Unmistakably a Comma butterfly
However yes I agree in that I would expect the white 'comma' marking to less of a circular shape, can anyone else advise on this one please? |

| | | Re: Comma butterfly? What about the colour? Further googling has uncovered a green comma which he looks very like - but that would put him in the wrong country!
Have solved the 'O'. Just had another look at the photos I took and the opposite angle shows a comma - the 'O' on the one wing must be an abnormality.

| | | Re: Comma butterfly? Typically the Comma has a small C shaped spot but this is very changeable with no taxonomic significance, the other forms include o-album Newh; delta -album Spul; f-album Esp; g-album Gillm; and even c-extinctum Schulz
Your Comma is second brood which is better camouflaged for winter hibernation
