After looking in many of my books I am not sure if the "species" is supposed to have spots on the back upper wing or not could you tell me what your books say

Hi my book says it does have spots on the upper wing

I have so many of them in my garden at the moment nothing else dare come in they also seem quite aggressive (as aggressive as a butterfly can get) towards other species as well, and are always chasing off the Large Whites.

They do have visible spots on the underside also.

The UK Butterflies is a useful resource as it has images of the underside as well as of the top surfaces.

Tis interesting some books show spots on the rear upper wing and a number not, the majority of Gate Keepers this year and last year, in my garden had none or very small " residual " spots, the under sides are "normal" as described
