| | | Re: Gate Keeper Hedge Brown Hi my book says it does have spots on the upper wing
I have so many of them in my garden at the moment nothing else dare come in they also seem quite aggressive (as aggressive as a butterfly can get) towards other species as well, and are always chasing off the Large Whites.

| | | Re: Gate Keeper Hedge Brown Hi,
They do have visible spots on the underside also.
The UK Butterflies is a useful resource as it has images of the underside as well as of the top surfaces. UK Butterflies - Nymphalidae
Cheers,

| | | Re: Gate Keeper Hedge Brown Tis interesting some books show spots on the rear upper wing and a number not, the majority of Gate Keepers this year and last year, in my garden had none or very small " residual " spots, the under sides are "normal" as described
UK Butterflies shows both forms of rear upper back wing
