| | | Re: My Buddleia I've seen a Comma, and a Small Tortoiseshell. I've seen 4 Gate-keepers at once but none of anything on the Buddleia yet, also a Meadow Brown, Large White and Green-veined Whites. There was a small blue one too but not sure which. And a couple fo Ringlets!
I got pics of all but the Small Tortoiseshell and the blue one.
Janet

| | | Re: My Buddleia I caught this visitor yesterday in what was a very brief spell of sunshine. A couple of hours later, everything was bashed by very heavy rain and then a few minutes a later a good heavy hail shower. |

| | | Re: My Buddleia Perhaps I'm just a tad to far north, my buddlia's are still in the small bud stage and will not be open for another week or two. I have this bush in Light blue, dark blue, white, pink, magenta and royal blue. White seems to be the least attractive. Fortunately the other colours appear in succession, as soon as one is finished the next comes into bloom. Dead heading prolongs the flowering period, with lateral blooms taking over from the central flower stalk.
Small Tortoiseshells newly emerged, are common, but Peacocks are still in the larval stage in my neck of the woods. I have a couple of dozen larvae in my living room, chomping away on Nettle. They should be pupating within a week and when my Buddlia is in bloom they should be emerging. I am getting the odd 'Hutchinsoni' Comma, but no typical specimens are expected for a month or so.
Sadly Painted Ladies are somewhat scarce this year, although Red Admirals are fairly common.

| | | Re: My Buddleia Mine has been delightful this week after my despairing last week. It came out and there was nothing, zilcho! I was seriously wondering where everything had gone, then this week they all descended
I counted 6 peacocks at the same time a couple of days ago and have also seen good numbers of sm tortoiseshell.
Variety wise I have had the above, meadow brown, small skipper, comma, gatekeeper, green veined white, large white and red admiral.
No painted ladies as yet although I have seen some locally on field scabious but not many.
I had a Brimstone on it last year but haven't seen any of those so far this year!
