| | | Re: Butterfly Nature Count - Volunteers Needed I've done my first one (aparrently you can do as many as you like!) and was really pleased with the butterflies I saw. I chose a patch of wild thyme on the outskirts of Basingstoke and I am so glad it wasn't a bee count! I saw a total of 26 butterflies in 15 minutes including:
10 x Common Blue
2 x Holly Blue
1 x 6 Spot Burnet
4 x Meadow Brown
2 x Red Admiral
1 x Peacock
1 x Gatekeeper
3 x Large White
and...
2 x Silver-Washed Fritillaries which I didn't even know we had there (and I walk my dogs there all the time)! I walk a transect for UKBMS about 1/2 mile from there so I'll have to keep a look out for them there too.
I really enjoyed it and will be doing more over the coming week in different places.
Jo

| | | Re: Butterfly Nature Count - Volunteers Needed Small patch (40m x 50m) of grassy clearing in our so called 'woodland walk' produced this in about 30mins yesterday - so lucky this year as it is usually mown/cleared by this time by the council.
2x Large White
6x Small White
1x Green-veined White **
4x Common Blue **
2x Small Copper
7x Ringlet
3x Meadow Brown
2x Gatekeeper
1x Speckled Wood
2x Peacock
2x Red Admiral
2x Comma
1x Six-spot Burnet
1x Small Skipper
3x Small Heath
**the hardest for me to identify - although I managed to photo nearly all of them - I am using the Independent Magazine's pullout from last year to help with ID ing
