| | | Gatekeepers
I posted these photos on the "Insect of the Day" thread yesterday, having seen my first Gatekeepers of the year at Totternhoe, Beds. Today I saw many more Gatekeepers, as I walked parts of the Aylesbury and Wendover Arms of the Grand Union Canal, particularly around the village of Buckland.
Anybody else seen any Gatekeepers yet?
There were also Ringlets (loads of them!), Comma, Small Tortoiseshell, Meadow Brown and Marbled Whites about. |

Yes, I've seen quite a few Gatekeepers out now.
Cheers Jason. |

| | | Re: Gatekeepers I've been seeing them for 2-3 weeks now + good numbers today at Ruislip, the local unused golf course+ the odd one in my garden. Only saw 3 at Bookham yesterday. |

| | | Re: Gatekeepers They seem to have appeared during the last week here in North Hants, the Ringlets appeared about a fortnight ago along with the Marbled Whites. Meadow Browns however seem to be down in numbers on last year; I've only seen about 4 individuals so far this year.

| | | Re: Gatekeepers I just come back from a little trip out to look for butterflies and saw a fair few gatekeepers along with these:
Marbled white
Comma
Peacock
Ringlet
Meadow brown
Small tortoiseshell
Grey-veined white
Large white
Small skipper
Small copper
Plus a small blue of some sort and possibly a silver-washed frit. Was quite pleased with that for a couple of hours spotting in one place
This was probably the best picture I got: Small coppers - Wild About Britain Pics |

I had just wondered, as I hadn't noticed anybody mentioning them on WAB yet this summer. |

| | | Re: Gatekeepers Nice shots, Dave and acherontia.
There's been a Gatekeeper fliting round the back garden most of this afternoon, the first for the garden this year. |

When I was walking around some of my local sites earlier it was fairly breezy + overcast, but Gatekeeper was by far the most abundant + active species. Relatively few Meadow Browns again- they don't seem to be having a good season locally, unlike Gatekeeper + Ringlet. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
