| | | Small Skipper or small Large Skipper? Hi all, I spotted this whilst walking the dogs this lunchtime and wondered if it was a small skipper as it was sooooo tiny! I know size isn't always an indication so wanted your assistance as I've only seen large skippers round our way before.
Thanks for looking, Jo

Thanks again Jason, you certainly know your stuff!
Jo

Jo | Agree with Jason that it's a Small Skipper, but when you're doing a transect many (if they are flying) are often recorded as Small/ Essex as it's not possible to positively ID which of the 2, unless you're in an area where one doesn't occur. |

| | | Re: Small Skipper or small Large Skipper? With the skippers on my transect I have been lucky and almost all have landed. I have recorded all as large skippers so far as they have been quite large and all that I have managed to photograph (quite a high percentage so far this year) have turned out to be large skippers once I enlarge the photos. If one flies past too quickly for an i.d., e.g. a 'white' butterfly I don't record it, just pop it on the notes.
