Hi Jtee
The first is a Small/Essex Skipper,really you need a head on shot,where you will see black tips to the very ends of the antennae on Essex and orange brown to those on Small.
The second is a Large Skipper.

I also get very confused with skippers, Jtee.
The Large skipper should have some clear paler spots on the underside of the wing; but I'm getting some with very faint spots so I'm still not quite sure of the ID.
I've tried Jason's suggestion of looking at the antennae tips but I still can't decide exactly what colour they are!
Perhaps I'll have to admit defeat and ask for help sometime.
