Common blue? Resting on some Greater Knapweed in my garden Northampton, would not open wings!

Yes, Common Blue. Generally underwings of blues are more important in IDing them, especially on the continent where there are more species.

Thanks! Went out this morning to see if it was still around but nothing.. then I spotted a red admiral sized butterfly all black with a white bar surely a White admiral? Rare for a garden?? It never hung around long enough for a photo!
