What is this beauty?
Just seen this incredibly beautiful thing fluttering around outside in Essex. Never seen one before and not able to identify it on the web as yet.

What is this creature?

It's The Cinnabar moth - a mainly nocturnal species that can be disturbed during the day.

my book has six spot burnet as a day time flyer JUN - AUG.

They are- but the photo doesn't show one! As Jason correctly identified- it's a Cinnabar which is also regularly encountered by day. In fact I saw both of these species flying today near where I live.
