Small Blue or Holly Blue?

Hi,

I'm not sure which this is, I found it on the chalky Western Heights at Dover last Monday. According to my guide we are not supposed to get Small Blues in Kent, so if it is one, I'd be impressed! Rather confused...they are so similar looking...

A Small Blue it is.It has also been recorded at Dover before,contrary to what your book says,it is present in the area.Have a look at the website of the Kent Butterfly Conservation branch,which shows some recent sightings there.

That's brilliant, thanks ever so much Jason. I see there have been six records from Kent on the website you recommended this year including a few from Deal, just a few miles away. Maybe it's not that unusual after all.
