| | | Differences between Common Blue and Silver Studded Blue Will be adding a photo when I get home from work but can anyone tell me the differences between the Common Blue and the Silver Studded Blue?
Been looking online all morning and cannot really make out any differences. |

| | | Re: Differences between Common Blue and Silver Studded Blue Hi Neil,
The silver studded gets it's name from the little silver studs on the underside of its wings which I've circled in red on this picture...
I don't know if there's any other reliable way to tell them apart from photos.

| | | Re: Differences between Common Blue and Silver Studded Blue I think its a much greyer/ silver blue rather than the violet blue of the common.
Its one of those things where once you've seen it in the flesh and someone you trust has confirmed it for you, you can really see the difference that's just not evident in the book. |

| | | Re: Differences between Common Blue and Silver Studded Blue Just noticed your location Neil, and I think it's unlikely you'll find any near Blackpool. The distribution given on UK Butterflies - Silver-studded Blue - Plebeius argus is "Colonies are mostly found in central southern England, with scattered colonies elsewhere in central and southern England, and Wales."
It's a long way to travel but if you can join us at Thursley common on 24/25 July (see Thursley Common 24/25 July 2010 (4th meet)) you'll stand a pretty good chance. We've seen them there the last two years and that's where the photo I posted above was taken.
