Grizzled skipper sunbathing
Was up with a friend on the nature reserve near Goring I sometimes visit last weekend... Lovely and warm in the sunshine, lots of things flying and scuttling about, including Sloe shield bugs, bee flies 'dusting' and flicking their eggs into the ground, first instar dark bush cricket. Saw lots of Orange tips, Brimstones, Green-veined white and Holly blue. Also my first Grizzled skipper of the year (photograph below, not wonderful resolution 'cos it was being quite skittish and I couldn't get very close!). We bumped into some folks doing a butterfly transect and they said they'd also been spotting Green hairstreaks on their route. Nice to finally get some sunshine and warmer temperatures, bringing things out on the wing.
