| | | Re: Butterflies @ Wisley Glasshouse soon! Thanks for that - looks quite good fun and my girlfriend would love it I was really annoyed when they closed Syon Park butterfly house as it was about my closest. Does anyone know how many butterfly houses are still up and running and which is the best? I know of the Stratford-upon-avon butterfly house but lost track of the others (New Forest, Simmonds-Yat/Newent etc). |

| | | Re: Butterflies @ Wisley Glasshouse soon! They held a similar exhibition earlier this year, that I think extended into March. I went with a friend + enjoyed the experience. The only problem is that at this time of year we're kitted up for the cold outside + it's pretty steamy inside which means you get very warm + cameras, etc mist up.
Having watched wild Blue Morphos in Venezuela (as well as many other superb butterflies) I'll probably go back to Wisley to get a taste of the experience again.
Chris, the Natural History Museum in London has had a butterfly exhibit outside the museum in a heated area through the summer until September the past 2 seasons; don't know if this will happen again next year. |

| | | Re: Butterflies @ Wisley Glasshouse soon! Yep, give yourself at least half an hour for your camera to unsteam.
The butterfly house in Stratford is good and well worth a visit.
There is a little one on Hayling Island, not sure it deserves the name butterfly house, which I wouldn't go back to.
I'm looking forward to visiting Butterfly World next year but not sure which stage of development it will have reached by then.

| | | Re: Butterflies @ Wisley Glasshouse soon! The London NHM 'Amazing Butterflies' is quite a small exhibition but worth a visit and they don't let it get too crowded. This year they had caterpillars as well which was interesting. Will go over the holiday and see if I can find out if they are repeating it next year (It's only a short bus-ride from me.)

| | | Re: Butterflies @ Wisley Glasshouse soon! I certainly be visiting Wisley in January I became captivated [as they were!] during a winter holiday visit to the butterfly house at Icod in Tenerife next to the famous Dragontree - these beautiful ethereal creatures totally ignored us Tenerife - Mariposario del Drago |

| | | Re: Butterflies @ Wisley Glasshouse soon! There are already a few in the Glasshouse at Wisley, I saw these there today
At first I didn't think they were real until one started moving its' wings
I shall definitely be making a point of going for the main event - although I noticed that the charges are going up to £9.50 - not sure if that is just while the butterflies are there or whether it is just a general increase. |
