Autumn Butterflies

Still a few butterflies about in South Cheshire, this afternoon in the local churchyard I saw 2 Red Admirals and 1 Speckled Wood, quite a few flies about as well.

Saw a couple of Red Admirals and a Comma today at Messingham in Lincolnshire.

It was in Coppenhall Churchyard at Crewe, not much ivy there, the Speckled Wood and the flies were sunning themselves on the headstones, and the Red Admirals were just flitting around.

Was thinking that it will be worth looking out for the non-hibernating species of Butterflies, the Speckled Woods do seem to be surviving on the wing later and later in the year. Saw my final one last year at Nantwich on 28th October.

Can add Small White, Large White, Comma Red Admiral and a female Emperor Dragonfly!!!

Your Small Tort. on 23rd was interesting, actually saw two of them together at Tarvin near Chester on the 24th.

It was quite sunny at the time i saw it, so maybe it was getting a last bit of feeding in before trying to hibernate?! I've seen a few Nettles in flower again in the last week, so maybe this is what they are feeding up on

Saw a Brimstone on Tuesday and some very large Hornets.

Still a few red admirals flitting about in my garden in northumberland...but not in the lovely rain!
