Michaelmas daisies
Our michaelmas daisies have really attracted the butterflies this year (better than the buddleias when the weather was a bit iffy): today there were several quite fresh looking painted ladies, red admiral and small tortoiseshell, and single (rather tatty) comma, speckled wood and peacock as well as silver-y moths and lots of other weird and wonderful insects.

Agree some of these autumn daisies are excellent at attracting a wide variety of insects including the butterflies you've mentioned.

Some of the Aster spp/cultivars are very attractive, though others can be a bit wishy washy + A. novi-belgii forms prone to mildews.

They are looking for Painted Ladies on Autumnwatch. Perhaps you should get in touch and let them know. Last night they were quite concerned about the mysterious disappearance of our summer influx of them.
